UCLA Crushes Texas to Secure First-Ever Championship Appearance

The UCLA Bruins defeat the Texas Longhorns 51-44 to reach the NCAA women's basketball national championship game for the first time in program history.
In a hard-fought semifinal matchup, the UCLA Bruins withstood a late surge by the Texas Longhorns to secure a 51-44 victory and advance to the NCAA women's basketball national championship game for the first time in program history.
Led by a standout performance from sophomore center Lauren Betts, who recorded 16 points and a crucial block in the final minutes, the Bruins (36-1) dominated their way to the national title game after being manhandled by eventual champion UConn in their inaugural Final Four appearance a year ago.

The Bruins, who are enjoying the best season in program history, jumped out to an early lead and maintained their composure throughout the physical, back-and-forth contest. While Texas made a late push to narrow the gap, UCLA's stifling defense and timely scoring proved too much for the Longhorns to overcome.
"This team has worked so hard to get to this point," said UCLA head coach Cori Close. "I'm incredibly proud of the way they've handled the pressure and the moment. Now we've got one more game to win."
The Bruins' championship game matchup will be against the South Carolina Gamecocks, who defeated UConn in the other semifinal. UCLA will be seeking its first-ever national title, while South Carolina will be looking to defend its crown.
"We've got to give it everything we've got," said UCLA guard Charisma Osborne. "This is the moment we've been working for all season long. We're ready for the challenge."
With their semifinal victory, the Bruins have already made history, but they're not satisfied. They have their sights set on cutting down the nets and bringing home the school's first-ever women's basketball national championship.
