Transforming Special Education: Labour's Push for SEND Reforms

Bridget Phillipson's team is working to ensure MPs and the public understand the urgent need to overhaul the special educational needs system in the UK.
In her first week as a cabinet minister, Bridget Phillipson wasted no time in addressing a critical issue facing the UK education system - the need for special educational needs (SEND) reforms. Phillipson convened a meeting with nearly 100 new Labour MPs, many of whom had personal connections to the challenges facing families navigating the SEND system.
Among the attendees were MPs Jen Craft, Daniel Francis, and Steve Race, as well as the then Business Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds. These lawmakers brought diverse perspectives, having previously worked in the charity sector, unions, and the disability sector. They were all too familiar with the system's shortcomings and the urgent need for change.
