Syrian Authorities Evacuate ISIL-Linked Desert Camp, Relocate Remaining Residents

Syrian authorities have successfully relocated the last remaining residents from the notorious al-Hol camp, which was home to families of alleged ISIL members. This marks a significant development in the region's efforts to address the legacy of the terrorist group.
Syria has moved out the last residents of a desert camp that long housed relatives of alleged members of the ISIL armed group, an official said.
Fadi al-Qassem, the head of the Syrian government's Camp Coordination and Camp Management, said on Wednesday that the al-Hol camp in northeastern Syria was now empty of all its inhabitants.
The camp had been home to tens of thousands of people, mostly women and children, with links to ISIL. It was known for its dire humanitarian conditions and the presence of ISIL sympathizers.
