Rolling Stones Refute Claims of Mick Jagger's Involvement in Melania Trump Documentary

A source close to the Rolling Stones disputes producer's claim that Mick Jagger 'gave his blessing' for use of 'Gimme Shelter' in Melania Trump documentary.
Rolling Stones have refuted claims made by the producer of the Melania documentary that Mick Jagger was involved in and gave his blessing for the use of the band's song Gimme Shelter in the film.
The documentary, which follows the first lady in the 20 days leading up to Donald Trump's second inauguration in January 2025, opens with a sequence in Mar-a-Lago set to the Rolling Stones' classic track. Producer Marc Beckman had previously told Variety that Jagger "was actually involved" and "gave us his blessing" for the song's inclusion.
However, a source close to the Rolling Stones has now cast doubt on Beckman's claims, telling The Guardian that the band did not liaise with Beckman's team on the use of Gimme Shelter in the film.
The song is owned by music company ABKCO, but a spokesperson for the Rolling Stones has confirmed to The Guardian that the band did not coordinate with the Melania producers on its inclusion.
This latest development casts uncertainty over the extent of the Rolling Stones' involvement, if any, in the Melania documentary. The film has already faced criticism, with one review describing it as a "gilded trash remake" of the Zone of Interest.
The use of Gimme Shelter, a song known for its political and social commentary, has also been questioned, with some questioning the appropriateness of its inclusion in a documentary about the former first lady.
As the Rolling Stones continue to protect their intellectual property and artistic legacy, this latest dispute highlights the complexities surrounding the use of iconic music in political and documentary projects. The band's refusal to endorse the Melania documentary's claims of their involvement underscores their commitment to maintaining control over their artistic work.
The Melania documentary is expected to premiere in the coming months, but the controversy over the use of Gimme Shelter is likely to continue to generate discussion and debate among fans, critics, and the public.
