Powerful Super Typhoon Sinlaku Targets Mariana Islands

As a rapidly intensifying storm in the western Pacific, Super Typhoon Sinlaku poses a dangerous threat to Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and surrounding regions.
The Mariana Islands, home to the US territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, are bracing for a powerful and potentially destructive weather event as Super Typhoon Sinlaku bears down on the region. This rapidly strengthening storm system originated as a cluster of thunderstorms over the seas of Micronesia before rapidly intensifying into a tropical storm and then a full-fledged typhoon over the past several days.
Sinlaku has quickly grown into an extremely dangerous super typhoon, with maximum sustained winds of over 155 mph (250 km/h) and gusts up to 190 mph (305 km/h). Meteorologists warn that the storm is likely to maintain its intense structure as it approaches the Mariana Islands, bringing the threat of destructive winds, flooding rains, and dangerous surf to the region.
