Overcoming 'Fear of Flying': Clinic Helps Anxious Travelers Soar

A San Francisco-based program has been helping fearful flyers for 50 years, providing supported exposure to air travel to ease anxiety and get them back in the skies.
For the past half-century, a pioneering program in San Francisco has been offering a safe haven for those with a crippling fear of flying. The Fear of Flying Clinic provides a comprehensive, multi-day course that gently reintroduces anxious travelers to the sights, sounds, and sensations of air travel, helping them overcome their aviation phobias.
The clinic's approach is centered around exposure therapy - giving participants the opportunity to gradually confront their fears in a controlled, supportive environment. Over the course of four days, attendees participate in a variety of activities designed to build their confidence and comfort level with flying, from walking up the boarding stairs of a 787 aircraft to experiencing the interior of a plane without ever taking off.
