NSW Readies for Potential Return of IS-Linked Women, Children from Syria

NSW authorities prepare for the possible return of Australian women and children linked to ISIS fighters from the Roj refugee camp in Syria.
The New South Wales government is actively preparing for the potential return of a significant portion of the group of Australian women and children linked to Islamic State fighters from the Roj refugee camp in Syria. Premier Chris Minns has confirmed that the state has been working closely with the federal government on this issue since late 2025, and a strong law enforcement response is expected.
The group in question consists of 11 women and 23 children, and if authorities in Syria allow them to leave the Roj camp, around a third of them are expected to return to NSW. Minns stated that the state government has been discussing the possible return of these individuals with federal agencies, as they navigate the complex and sensitive situation.
