The Mazzarella clan is one of the most dangerous organized crime groups in the Campania region, known for their involvement in drug trafficking, extortion, and other illicit activities. Mazzarella, the group's leader, had been evading capture since early 2025 when he was linked to a high-profile murder investigation.

According to investigators, Mazzarella had been hiding out in the exclusive coastal town of Positano, living in a lavish villa that overlooked the sparkling Mediterranean.
