A powerful winter storm has unleashed record-breaking snowfall across the Northeastern United States, blanketing the region in a thick layer of white and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. The historic blizzard has snarled transportation, closed schools and businesses, and created hazardous conditions for millions of people.
At the height of the storm, over half a million homes and businesses in the Northeast were left without electricity as heavy, wet snow and strong winds downed power lines throughout the region. In some areas, snowfall totals exceeded 30 inches, with Boston reporting its second-highest snowfall on record.
