Netflix Launches Dedicated Kids Gaming App: Netflix Playground

Netflix unveils a new app focused on family-friendly games for kids under 8, with titles based on popular shows like Peppa Pig, available globally starting April 28th.
Netflix has made family-friendly titles a key part of its current games strategy, and now it's pushing a little harder with the launch of a new app. Called Netflix Playground, the app is focused on games aimed at kids aged eight and under, and, like the rest of Netflix's gaming lineup, Playground games are included as part of a Netflix subscription, and feature no ads or in-app purchases.
Playground is available now in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, and will be rolling out to the rest of the world on April 28th. The launch lineup primarily consists of titles based on popular kids shows like Peppa Pig and Stranger Things.
The move is part of Netflix's broader efforts to expand its gaming offerings, which have included the acquisition of game studios and the launch of new titles based on its popular TV shows. By creating a dedicated kids gaming app, Netflix is tapping into a lucrative market and providing families with a safe, ad-free space for their children to play.
"Playground is a place for kids to have fun, learn, and explore through play," said Heather Bentley, Netflix's Director of Kids and Family Games. "We're excited to offer a range of engaging, high-quality games that kids and parents can enjoy together."
The Playground app will feature a variety of game genres, including puzzles, platformers, and interactive stories, all designed with a focus on educational and developmental value. Netflix has also promised to regularly update the app with new content, ensuring a steady stream of fresh experiences for young gamers.
The launch of Netflix Playground comes at a time when the streaming giant is facing increasing competition in the kids and family entertainment space. Rivals like Disney+ and Apple TV+ have been making strides in this area, and Netflix is clearly looking to strengthen its position by offering a dedicated, curated gaming experience for its youngest subscribers.
"We believe that games can be a powerful tool for learning and development, and we're committed to providing our young viewers with high-quality, engaging content that supports their growth and well-being," added Bentley.
With the Playground app, Netflix is not only catering to the gaming needs of its youngest audience but also further solidifying its position as a comprehensive entertainment platform for families. As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, Netflix's strategic moves in the kids gaming space could prove crucial in maintaining its competitive edge.
