NASA's Artemis II: Humanity's Return to the Moon's Orbit

Discover the exciting details of NASA's Artemis II mission, the first crewed moon voyage in over half a century, and learn when this historic journey will take place.
After decades of anticipation, NASA is once again preparing to send humans on a journey around the Moon. The highly anticipated Artemis II mission will mark the first time in more than 50 years that astronauts will travel to the lunar vicinity, testing critical life-support systems and paving the way for future crewed missions to the Moon and beyond.
Artemis II is the second flight of NASA's Artemis program, which aims to establish a sustainable human presence on and around the Moon. This mission will follow the uncrewed Artemis I flight, which successfully launched in November 2022 and circled the Moon before returning to Earth.
The Artemis II crew will consist of four astronauts who will embark on a journey that will take them on a flyby of the Moon, coming within approximately 6,000 miles of the lunar surface. This mission will not land on the Moon, but rather focus on testing the capabilities of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket that will carry it to the Moon.
