Massive Geelong Refinery Fire: Albanese Assures No Fuel Restrictions

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the Geelong refinery fire will not lead to fuel restrictions, despite a 40% drop in petrol production at one of Australia's remaining refineries.
Albanese has assured Australians that the massive fire at the Geelong refinery will not result in fuel restrictions, despite a 40% drop in petrol production at one of the country's last two remaining refineries.
The prime minister spoke outside the Viva Energy refinery, which had been supplying around half of Victoria's fuel before the massive fire that burned for 13 hours.
While the Geelong facility has been impacted, Albanese emphasized that the government does not intend to implement stage 3 fuel restrictions. This is despite the significant reduction in petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel production at the refinery.
Albanese stated, "The damage from the fire is significant, but we will not be moving to stage 3 fuel restrictions at this time." He added that the government is working closely with the fuel industry to ensure adequate supply across the country.
The Corio refinery fire has raised concerns about Australia's fuel security, with the country now relying on just two remaining oil refineries. The incident has also sparked discussions about the long-term viability of the domestic refining industry.
Despite the challenges, Albanese has reassured Australians that the government is working to maintain fuel supplies and avoid any disruptions to the country's transportation and energy sectors.
