Lawsuit Alleges UCLA Fostered Antisemitism After Gaza Protests

The US Justice Department sues UCLA, claiming the university failed to prevent discrimination against Jewish and Israeli faculty after pro-Palestinian protests erupted on campus.
In a controversial move, the US Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), alleging that the university created a hostile work environment for Jewish and Israeli faculty and staff in the wake of protests against the war on Gaza. The lawsuit, the latest action taken by the Trump administration against a US university, claims that UCLA violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by failing to prevent and correct discriminatory and harassing conduct following the October 7th, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the ensuing conflict.
The lawsuit stems from a series of pro-Palestinian protests that erupted across the UCLA campus in the aftermath of the Gaza war. According to the Justice Department, the university failed to adequately address the resulting antisemitic rhetoric and harassment directed at Jewish and Israeli faculty members. This lawsuit represents an escalation of President Trump's ongoing feud with the state of California, which has frequently been at odds with the administration's policies.
