Landmark Trial: Former Child Influencer Sues Social Media Giants

A 20-year-old woman testifies about her childhood addiction to social media, seeking to hold platforms responsible for harms to young users.
LOS ANGELES - A young woman who is battling against social media giants took the stand Thursday to testify about her experience using the platforms as she was growing up, saying she was on social media "all day long" as a child. The 20-year-old is seeking to hold the tech companies responsible for the harms she claims their products have caused to children who use them.
The woman, who has not been publicly named, began using social media at a young age and says her early and constant use of the platforms "addicted" her to the technology and exacerbated depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Her landmark lawsuit against several major social media companies, including Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, has the potential to change the way these platforms operate and how they are regulated.
