Kiwis Triumph: New Zealand Eliminate Sri Lanka from T20 World Cup

New Zealand fights back to defeat co-hosts Sri Lanka by 61 runs, sending the islanders crashing out of the T20 World Cup at the Super Eights stage.
New Zealand put in a dominant performance to eliminate co-hosts Sri Lanka from the T20 World Cup with a 61-run victory. After posting a challenging total of 168/8, the Kiwis bowled out the home side for 107, advancing to the next round of the tournament.
Batting first, New Zealand got off to a shaky start, losing both openers cheaply. However, Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips steadied the innings with a crucial 84-run partnership. Williamson top-scored with 61 off 48 balls, while Phillips contributed 104 off 64 deliveries.
In response, Sri Lanka struggled to keep up with the required run rate, losing wickets at regular intervals. Maheesh Theekshana and Dhananjaya de Silva tried to mount a fightback, but the New Zealand bowlers, led by Tim Southee and Trent Boult, kept them under tight control.
Southee and Boult picked up three wickets each, while Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi chipped in with two apiece to bowl out Sri Lanka for 107 in 19 overs. The result means that Sri Lanka, one of the tournament co-hosts, have been eliminated from the competition at the Super Eights stage.
New Zealand's victory was a testament to their all-round strength and resilience, as they bounced back from a shaky start to post a challenging total and then execute their bowling plans to perfection. The win not only secures their place in the next round but also serves as a statement of intent from the Kiwis, who will be looking to go all the way and claim the T20 World Cup title.
