In a calculated move aimed at increasing pressure on the United States, Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, has been reaching out to European capitals to brief them on the concessions Iran was willing to make during the recent talks in Islamabad. The regime in Tehran hopes to capitalize on the deepening rift between the US and its European allies to compel Washington to make compromises in the ongoing conflict.
Following the inconclusive Islamabad talks, Araghchi held phone conversations with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, briefing them on the specifics of Iran's proposed offer regarding its stockpile of highly enriched uranium and the future management of the Strait of Hormuz.
