Iran Shuts Down Strait of Hormuz, Demands US Lift Blockade

Iran's IRGC reportedly fires on tanker trying to pass through vital shipping lane, forcing strait closure again after brief reopening. Details on Middle East crisis escalation.
Iran has once again closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane in the Middle East, after briefly reopening it. According to reports, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) fired on a tanker attempting to pass through the strait on Saturday, forcing it to turn back.
The move comes after Iran had briefly lifted restrictions on the strait, in response to the United States saying it would not end its blockade of Iranian ports. However, Iranian officials have now reversed that decision, reimposing controls on the vital waterway.
