Former Florida AG Pam Bondi Dodges Congressional Epstein Hearing

Democrats criticize Pam Bondi, former Florida Attorney General, for refusing to testify about her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case in a congressional hearing.
Pam Bondi, the former Florida Attorney General, has come under fire from Democratic lawmakers for refusing to appear at a congressional hearing regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case. Epstein, a wealthy financier, was accused of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls and was found dead in his jail cell in 2019.
Bondi, who served as Florida's top prosecutor from 2011 to 2019, has faced criticism for her handling of the initial 2008 investigation into Epstein's crimes. Critics allege that Bondi's office struck a lenient plea deal with Epstein, allowing him to serve just 13 months in county jail despite facing federal sex trafficking charges.
In a letter to Bondi, Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee warned that a congressional subpoena for her testimony remains in effect, and they urged her to reconsider her refusal to appear. The lawmakers stated that Bondi's testimony is crucial to understanding how Epstein was able to evade more serious punishment for his crimes.
