Feds Seek to Overturn Convictions for Proud Boys, Oath Keepers in Capitol Siege

The US Department of Justice has filed motions to vacate seditious conspiracy convictions for members of far-right groups involved in the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Experts analyze the implications.
The United States Department of Justice has taken a surprising turn, requesting that a federal appeals court overturn the convictions of members from the far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who were found guilty of seditious conspiracy in connection with the violent siege of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Jeanine Pirro, the Donald Trump-appointed US attorney for the District of Columbia, has signed separate motions to vacate the convictions of a slew of individuals, including the Proud Boys' leaders Ethan Nordean and Joseph Biggs, as well as Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers' militia and a former attorney.
