Ensuring Fairness in UK's Grocery Supply Chains: Groceries Code Adjudicator Shifts to Defra

The Groceries Code Adjudicator will move from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, fostering a more integrated approach to supply chain fairness.
In a move aimed at promoting greater transparency and fairness within the United Kingdom's grocery supply chains, the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) will be shifting its sponsorship from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) on July 1, 2026.
The transition is designed to foster a more joined-up approach to addressing issues of fairness and ethical practices across the food supply ecosystem. By aligning the GCA's oversight with Defra's broader remit of regulating the food and agriculture industries, the government seeks to create a more holistic framework for addressing concerns raised by suppliers, producers, and consumers.
