Artemis II Crew Embarks on Historic Lunar Flyby

NASA's Orion capsule will venture to within 4,000 miles of the lunar surface, allowing astronauts to witness both poles in an unprecedented feat.
In a momentous step for human space exploration, the four-member crew of NASA's Artemis II mission has entered the moon's gravitational grip, setting the stage for a historic flyby of the lunar far side. This mission marks the first time in over half a century that astronauts will venture to the furthest point from Earth ever reached by humans.
The Orion capsule housing the crew will come within just over 4,000 miles of the lunar surface, allowing the astronauts - three Americans and one Canadian - to witness a breathtaking view of both the north and south poles of Earth's natural satellite. This unprecedented proximity to the moon will provide the crew with a unique perspective and an opportunity to conduct vital scientific observations.
