Alaskan Mothers Reclaim Pregnancy Support with Native Doulas

Indigenous doulas in Alaska are rebuilding maternal support networks, helping mothers navigate pregnancy and childbirth with cultural sensitivity.
In the midst of the pandemic, Mary Sherbick, a Yupik woman in Alaska, found solace and support through the Alaska Native Birthworkers Community (ANBC). Sherbick, who became pregnant in 2020, was anxious and isolated - until she discovered ANBC's online talking circles for Native mothers.
